Visit the Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore

The Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore was started initially as a private garden in an area of 40 acres of land by Hyder Ali in 1760. The garden was further developed by Hyder Ali’s son Tipu Sultan and then by the British rulers.

Lalbagh is now under the aegis of the Directorate of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka. Lalbagh has been an internationally renowned centre for scientific study of plants and botanical artwork and also conservation of plants.

Today the garden is a lush green paradise with an area of 240 acres in the heart of the city. Many of the tropical plants present in this garden were brought here by Tipu Sultan himself. A wonderful flower show is held here every year. The floral clock surrounded by snow white and seven dwarfs is a major attraction to this place.

The Glass house of Lalbagh Botanical Garden is surrounded by Pencil Cedars and Champaka trees. The Glass house is usually a venue for horticultural shows.

The garden is home for many sub-tropical trees, herbs and many colorful flowerbeds. The artistic landscape is a good delight for the eyes and makes the garden a wonderful place for admiring nature’s beauty. The garden also includes lush green lawns, lotus pools and fountains. The Lalbagh Garden is one of the most beautiful garden in India.

Do pay a visit to this place on your next trip to India.
