Splendid Appearance of Mysore Palace



Mysore Palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in India with more than 2.7 million visitors. The tourists are not allowed to take photographs inside the palace. All visitors must remove their footwear to enter the palace. The palace is surrounded by a large garden. The Architecture of the palace is fantastic. Above the central arch inside the palace is a sculpture of Gaja lakshmi the goddess of wealth, prosperity, good luck and abundance.


The palace is the venue for the famous Mysore Dasara festival. On the tenth day of the festival Vijaya Dhasami a parade of elephants starts from the palace grounds. The Dasara festival is celebrated on the month of September and October of each year.

The festival symbolizes the victory of goddess durga over the demon Mahishasura and there by  witnessing the triumph of good over evil. The great chamundashwari temple is near to Mysore.






To celebrate this festival the palace of Mysore is illuminated with more than 96,000 lights during that two month period.





The royal throne called the Ratna Simhasana with captivating artwork on its gold plates is displayed during the Dasara festival. The Maharajas of Mysore used to sit on the golden throne and hold durbars in the palace Durbar Hall.

The Royal family continues to live in a portion of the palace.
